London Fashion Week provided one of the most charismatic showcases of men’s fashion we’ve seen in a long time. The designers released their AW14 collections and it became clear that there are a number of overarching trends that we are all going to be sporting in the colder season. Here are a few that the boys at Briefd will be wearing:
A wardrobe staple that we won’t be seeing the last of any time soon. Traditionally a plaid shirt has always been a winner, but in AW14 we will be seeing more opportunities to wear this print across outerwear such as tailored trench coats and military shaped jackets. Wear with plain knitwear scarf and some brogues for a smart casual look that will still battle those winter winds.
SS14 allowed us to explore a bit more of a botanical theme, with florals and big leaf prints. As we hang up our sunnies and put our flips flops back in the wardrobe we don’t have to say bye to summer-based prints just yet. We can move to more wallpaper-like prints, across sweatshirts and shirts alike. Perhaps one of our favourite looks is a multi-tone floral bomber, but to avoid looking too summery team with tailored black jeans and some sneaks.
The trend that we think we might be looking forward to the most channels the spirit of travel with a twist of vintage. The main fabrics here are flannel, alluring tweeds and charming tartans. Shapes are cut close to the body and tailored to offset the added accessories, think slim fit shirts with blazers and trench coats for outerwear. Throw on a printed scarf, grab your umbrella and an oversized holdall to complete the look.
Don’t get us wrong, we are mourning the loss of endless summer nights and skin warming sunshine, but there’s something about autumn fashion that makes us look forward to those cold, crisp days.
